My current theory is that the zombies progress related to the total active (not counting pause) playtime of the community that closely resembles to days passed, for exemple if a day is 60 minutes in real life then there might be a variable somewhere that causes the zombies to up a notch at every 60 minutes, some players reported to seeing sort of a cap after 15-16 in game days which means there could be a variable limiting the progress after 900 minutes or something like that. I also kept my community with only 4 members and remained in the initial base while also keeping my influence under 500, destroying 0 plague hearts and having no outposts and not changing map, i did all this to try and have as few variables as possible to see if the zombies would progress and they did, by the time of what would be 3-4 in game day i saw bloaters and ferals both on hordes and out of hordes, i also saw lots of plague zombies and hordes were sized around 4-7 zombies total. Click to expand.I started i new community on meagher valley to test exactly that, i downloaded a trainer with time freeze option and i froze time on day 0, events would progress normally but the days would never advance i played for what would be 4-5 in game days and to my surprise the zombie difficulty progressed just as much as on my first playthrough, i saw increasing number of zombies and hordes even though i killed every single infestation that spawned i also drove around the entire map and found none other than the ones on enclaves.
